My cake smash sessions are relaxed, personalised and designed around your baby's personality. Every session begins with beautiful birthday portraits before the fun of the cake smash, followed by a warm splash bath to finish the experience.

From simple, elegant setups to themed celebrations, we'll create a collection of images that perfectly capture your baby's first birthday and all the smiles, laughter and messy moments that come with it.

Whether you're planning the session before their birthday or shortly afterwards, every experience is tailored to your baby. Parents and brothers or sisters are welcome to be included at the beginning of the session, creating beautiful family photographs before the cake smash begins.

Choosing the perfect cake

For the biggest smiles and the best messy photographs, I recommend a frozen gateau, as it creates lots of fun and texture during the session. Traditional sponge cakes look beautiful but are often much tidier, creating less mess for little hands to explore.

Before the cake comes out, we'll capture beautiful birthday portraits of your little one as part of their baby photography session at our Plymouth photography studio. These timeless images are the perfect way to celebrate their first birthday before the messy fun begins.

Cake Smash

It's time to let your little one explore, play, and enjoy their cake as part of their baby photography session! Every baby reacts differently - some dive straight in, some take a little encouragement, and others are simply fascinated by the icing. Whatever happens, I'll capture all the genuine smiles, expressions and unforgettable moments at our Plymouth photography studio.

Splash Bath (Optional Upgrade)

Finish the baby photography session with a warm bubble bath at our Plymouth photography studio, where your little one can splash, play and clean up after all the cake-covered fun. The Splash Bath often creates some of the biggest smiles and is the perfect way to complete their Cake Smash experience.

When should I book my Cake Smash Session?

I recommend booking a few months in advance to ensure availability. Sessions are usually held in the weeks leading up to your baby's first birthday, giving you plenty of time to enjoy your photographs for their special day.

What age is best for a Cake Smash Session?

Cake Smash Sessions are designed for babies celebrating their first birthday and are best booked in the weeks leading up to their birthday.

How long does the session last?

Cake Smash Sessions last approximately 1 hour. This gives us plenty of time for birthday portraits, the cake smash itself and, if booked, an optional Splash Bath, without becoming too tiring for your little one.

Who provides the cake?

Parents provide the cake, allowing you to choose something your little one enjoys while catering for any dietary requirements or allergies.

What type of cake works best?

Can parents and siblings be included?

Absolutely. Parents and brothers or sisters are welcome to be included in the birthday portraits at the beginning of the session before the cake smash begins.

What if my baby doesn't like cake?

Every baby reacts differently, and that's completely normal. Some babies dive straight in, while others prefer to explore at their own pace. Whether your little one eats lots of cake, makes a mess or simply enjoys playing, I'll capture beautiful, natural photographs that celebrate their personality.

Is the Splash Bath included?

The Splash Bath is available as an optional upgrade. It's a lovely way to finish the session, allowing your little one to splash, play and clean up after all the cake-covered fun.

When will I receive my photographs?

Every image is individually hand edited before being presented in your private online gallery, where you'll be able to view and download your finished photographs.

How do I book?

Simply click the Book Your Cake Smash Session button or get in touch if you have any questions. I recommend booking early to secure your preferred date before your baby's first birthday.

What if my baby cries or doesn't cooperate?

That's perfectly normal! Every baby has their own personality, and I never expect them to perform for the camera. The session is relaxed and led by your little one's pace, with plenty of time for cuddles, reassurance and breaks if needed. Some of the most memorable photographs come from those natural, genuine moments.
